Grade Justification Requests
Understand what a grade justification is and how you should handle it in WISEflow
WISEflow has the functionality to allow participants to request a grade justification from their assessor regarding a score/grade and/or feedback on a marked piece of work. The system can also facilitate the re-marking of the work by the same assessor.
As an assessor you will be able to accept and answer grade justification requests from your students on a flow. For an overview of your outstanding requests, click on the Grade justifications button at the top of your flow overview.
This will send you to the following page:
- Change tab between currently active requests and answered/completed requests
- Toggle visibility of various columns in the table for a better overview
- See the completed request from the student
- Un-assign yourself from the request (will move the request to the table underneath regarding unassigned requests)
- Answer the justification request
After being assigned to an explanation request, you have the option to either go directly via the above overview, or you will be able to see it on the flow, indicated by a brown square around the speech-bubble icon:
Answering the justification request works in the same way as creating an annotation or comment on a paper. View the student's request by clicking the View participant's request button.
When you have written your explanation, click on the Submit button, which will then finalise and lock the answered explanation request.
If you need to correct your response after you have submitted it, contact the manager who will be able to unlock the answered explanation request and allow for amendment for submitting again.
It is also possible for the justification to be submitted proactively as a part of the grade submission process. To mark a comment as grade justification which will automatically be shared with the participant, you simply have to tick the box Grade justification in the comment field.
If the comment is marked as Grade justification it will automatically be shared with co-assessors and participants. In case you add multiple comments to a participant's submission, only one can be marked as a grade justification which will then automatically shared with the participant at the end of the assessment period.
A comment marked as grade justification will only be shared with participants if Show final grade has been enabled as a flow setting.
When working with a group submission, the response to a grade justification submitted by one group member will be shared with all members of the group.
