Alternative Grades

Understand how to define grades available to assessors to award instead of a final grade

An alternative grade is a grade that can be issued by managers and assessors (assessors need to be set up to do so - see below). Rather than an achieved grade, an alternative grade can be used to indicate situations such as non-attendance or illness in relation to a participant/student.

Users with the licence administrator role can define the alternative grades that are available for use on their WISEflow licence.

The alternative grades module needs to be activated on a WISEflow licence. Please contact the UNIwise Support Team for more information or assistance.

To add, modify or remove alternative grades on a WISEflow licence, access the Licence administration tab and then the Licence configuration sub-tab. Then click on the Alternative grades button.

The Alternative grades area lists all of the current alternative grades that are available on the WISEflow licence. Each row in the data table represents an alternative grades and displays information such as:

  • The short code
  • The description
  • Creation date
  • Last modified date
  • Last modified by
  • Whether Assessors have the ability to issue the alternative grade
  • Whether the alternative grade is locked (e.g. it cannot be edited or deleted)

Licence Administrators can also add new alternative grades (see below for further information) by clicking on the Add alternative grade button (see #1 on the image above).

It's also possible to edit existing alternative grades (see #2 on the image above) or delete them (see #3 on the image above).

If an alternative grade is connected to an integration with another system (such as a student record system) where specific assessments are required, it is not possible to edit or delete that alternative grade.

How to create a new alternative grade

Click on the Add alternative grade button (see #1 on the image above).

On the Add alternative grade window that appears, add the grade name (maximum 10 characters), description (maximum 20 characters) and specify if the alternative grade should be available for assessors to issue it during the marking of student submissions. Managers have the ability to issue any alternative grades that exist on their WISEflow licence.

If an alternative grade is modified at a later date, these changes do not affect any alternative grades that were previously registered to participants/students.
