Status New Marking Tool and Marking Journey - February 2025

We are finalising the last steps in the development of the new marking tool and new marking journey and wanted to share a progress report and outlook after the last update from September 2024.

Progress Since September 2024 Update

Our development team has kept busy over the last couple of months to add more functionality into the new marking tool and we are on track to finalise remaining functionalities. Here is a short summary of features and functionalites that have been release in connection with the new marking journey (consisting of the marking tool and the new flow page for assessors) since September:

October Release

  • FLOWmulti Grade Scaling: Markers can now scale the sum of points/marks into a final grade.
  • Design update: The user interface of the marking tool has been revised and improved to reduce confusion and effort and thereby improve the marking efficiency. In addition, the accessibility experience has been improved significantly, particularly when using keyboard navigation.
  • Download document version of submission items: Offline marking is now also supporting the download of PDF version of FLOWmulti submission.
This functionality is exclusively available on flows using the new marking journey.
  • Co-assessor grade transparency*: A new privilege for licence defined assessor types enables visibility of submitted grades among co-assessors that have been assigned to the same participants on a flow.
This functionality is exclusively available on flows using the new marking journey.

* Note that this functionality is not supported on FLOWseries flows, set up with portfolio assessment, as grades are only entered but not submitted by assessors.

December Release

  • FLOWmulti statistics: The new statistics module has been around for a couple of months but from December onwards, assessors have been able to export the response data directly in WISEflow or via newly created API endpoints which can only be used when statistics are generated via the new marking tool.
  • Endpoints for retrieving FLOWmulti submissions as PDF: In addition to being able to download FLOWmulti submissions as PDFs via Offline Marking, a new functionality enables institutions to also retrieve FLOWmulti submissions via the API.
This functionality is exclusively available on flows using the new marking journey.
  • Full FLOWoral Support: FLOWoral flows are now fully integrated into the new marking journey, with an improved overview for assessors both in the marking tool and the new flow page for assessor to better support the special grading purposes in a FLOWoral.
  • Cross flow navigation: Marking flows as part of Combination (formerly FLOWseries) and Sequence (formerly FLOWcombine) setup is now also fully supported. While navigation across flows as part of a combination had already been supported in the legacy marking tool, institutions can now also benefit from the new navigational features when marking flows as part of a sequence (formerly FLOWcombine) in the new marking tool.

January Release

  • Bulk handle early feedback: Assessors can now release or withdraw early feedback for all participants they have been allocated to in addition to doing it per participant.
This functionality is exclusively available on flows using the new marking journey.

Look Ahead Towards Deprecation of the Legacy Marking Tool

With the release in week 18, we will conclude work in bringing the new marking journey into a state were it is supporting the same workflows as the legacy marking tool but also provide assessors with new functionality to better serve their assessment practices. A list of functionality that will no longer be supported by the new marking journey had been shared in a previous update.

With the May release, assessors will be given the ability to add rubrics to flows using the new marking journey. In addition to some finishing touches on the progression overview and continuous performance improvements, the new marking journey will then be in a state to be used by all institutions.

We therefore plan to set the new marking journey, consisting of the marking tool and new flow page for assessors, as the default on all production licences with the May release (week 18). This will mean that the new marking journey will automatically be enabled on any flow that is created after the May release. Flows that had been created prior to that date will remain unaffected by this change.

The months following the May release will be a transition period where it will still be possible for managers to disable the new marking journey on a flow level. Should institutional processes required that all flows should still be automatically set up with the legacy marking tool, please get in touch with our Customer Support Team shortly before the May release.

In autumn 2025, the new marking journey will become the default and it will no longer be possible for institutions to mark flows with the legacy tool. All flows will be converted to use the new marking journey. We therefore strongly advise institutions to create plans to progress to the new marking journey in the coming months as the legacy marking tool will be deprecated in autumn / winter 2025.

We will follow up with another update in March.
