User Management

In this article:

How users are created in Originality

Users in Originality can be created in two ways:

  1. An admin can add a user manually from the User Management page.
  2. A user can be added automatically when they first sign in via Single Sign-On (SSO) with credentials from a recognized institutional domain. If the domain is recognized, the user is added to the license user list. An admin can then assign or adjust their role. Once a role is assigned, the user can access the Originality platform.

Assigning a user role

There are two primary roles in Originality:

  • Administrator: This role gives full platform access – managing users, license settings, all documents, statistics, web sources, and more.
  • Assessor: This role allows assessors to view their own uploaded documents, generate reports on their own uploads, view the web source list, and suggest web sources.

Originality roles are distinct from any equivalent roles configured in an integrating system. For example, the assessor-type privilege configured inside WISEflow controls who can see similarity reports inside WISEflow's marking tool – it is separate from the Originality assessor role described above. Each integrating system handles its own role configuration.

To assign a role to a user in Originality:

  1. As an admin, go to the User Management page in Originality: https://wiseflow-originality.net/license/users
  2. Locate the user on the list.
  3. In the Actions column, click the edit icon for that user.
  4. Select the appropriate role and save the change.

Deactivating a user

Each user's status is shown in the Active column of the User Management list. An Originality user can be set to inactive by clicking the edit icon in the Actions column and updating the user profile.

An inactive user retains their record and any documents they have uploaded, but they cannot sign in.

If you wish to permanently delete a user, click the trash icon in the Actions column. Before deletion, the system will ask you to confirm the action.

Login options and troubleshooting

Originality is available at https://wiseflow-originality.net and offers the following login options:

  • Microsoft Entra
  • SSO
  • WAYF
  • Magic link

As an admin, you can configure the relevant login methods in the License settings > Login tab. There, you can also enable automatic user provisioning on first login and define the default role on first login.
