How WISEflow integrates with Originality

WISEflow is UNIwise's assessment platform and is the most common integration partner for Originality. When the two products are used together, submissions made in WISEflow are sent to Originality for analysis and the resulting report is surfaced to assessors directly inside the WISEflow marking tool. 

Flows supporting Originality

When integrated with WISEflow, Originality applies to the following assessment types:

  • FLOWassign – similarity report is generated from the main PDF submission file only (appendices are not analyzed).
  • FLOWlock – similarity report is generated from the submitted document.
  • FLOWmulti – items that contain at least one essay-type question (essay, maths essay, chemistry essay) are eligible for a similarity report.

Once Originality is enabled on a license, it is by default activated for the assessment types listed above. Managers in WISEflow can disable Originality on a per-flow basis.

Submission transfer from WISEflow to Originality

Here is a rundown of the workflow between submissions in WISEflow and similarity report generation in Originality:

  1. The participation period for a flow closes.
  2. Two-hour holdback. WISEflow waits two hours before sending submissions to Originality. This accommodates late submissions, withdrawals, and confidential material declarations.
  3. WISEflow sends each submission to Originality, together with a do-not-index signal for any submissions where the participant ticket Confidential Material on the cover sheet.
  4. Originality analyzes the submission and returns the report within 24 hours of receipt (read more about report generation in the How Originality Generates Similarity Reports article).
  5. The report becomes available to assessors in WISEflow, embedded into the WISEflow marking tool.

What assessors see in WISEflow

  • The document score is shown alongside the submission in the marking tool.
  • The full report opens with the standard Originality layout – Summary, Matches, and Excluded tabs.
  • Assessors must hold the assessor role in Originality that grants access to similarity reports. The access can be configured by a manager of the Originality license.

Managers can also add the Confidential Material element to the cover sheet in WISEflow so that participants can declare whether their submission contains confidential material – this drives the do-not-index signal sent to Originality.

Configuration

Enabling Originality on a WISEflow license is handled by the Service Desk. To request enablement, or to change which assessment types Originality applies to, open a ticket via the Service Centre.
